Time to Baste

I managed to get the top done for the Appalachian Trail quilt on Wednesday.

Piecing the backing was not something I was looking forward to.
But I did it.
Now I need to baste it and quilt it.
Blah.

As a distraction from the AT quilt I did my Farm Girl blocks.

Fresh Pears

Feed and Seed.

Boathouse on the Prairie

After supper last night I got my boathouse top finished.
I love it.
When it is laying down like this you can't see the pattern very well.
I wish I had a way to take a picture of it hanging somehow.
I'll think about that.
I still need to find a backing.

Next up I need to get a move on a group quilt that I need to assemble and finish.
I feel like I need to get a move on.
Fast.
It's a super secret gift for our fellow quilt group friend that happens to be hiking the AT.
FAST.
I thought I would have until late Sept/early Oct.
I now think I need to get it done in the next few weeks.
She started at the end of March and only has 700 miles left!
I don't know how a person can walk 26 miles a day.
But apparently she can.

Origami Triangle Baby Quilt

That is a strange name for this quilt, but it's how I've come to think of it.
The fabric that was my starting point is a colorful animal print, with peacocks, lions, giraffes, zebras, elephants and butterflies.(Michael Miller Origami Oasis Pride Candy).
I pulled solids and a couple prints in the colors of the animals, and went with it.

The instant gratification of a simple baby quilt is wonderful!
Everything but the binding was from my stash.
The aqua backing was a very new stash addition that I bought just because, and within a week I'm looking at it realizing its a PERFECT backing.  It must have been fate.

I am getting this ready to ship off.
I feel so happy that this is my sixth quilt, here in the sixth month of the year.
I was hoping I would make a quilt a month this year after last year's craziness.

Now I am headed back to my Boathouse.
I have all of those HSTs pressed.
Now I am clipping the corners.
You can see I started playing with the block to be sure that I like it, and I LOVE IT!
I am listening to a new audiobook called Not My Daughter by Barbara Delinsky.
Loving it!

Farmgirl Blocks

I am currently not behind on my Farmgirl sampler blocks.

Last week I made four blocks to get caught up...

corn and tomatoes

country crossroads

crops

egg basket

I started using a barely there print for the background.
I am hoping to find a couple more light prints to use in this quilt, so it will look scrappier.

I am behind on my Snapshots QA and my Calendar BOM.
Hopefully I will have a little time to sew this weekend.

A Summer Baby Quilt

I was reminded the other day of an approaching baby shower for a cousin of mine, and I thought I better get going if I want to make her baby a quilt.

I had a pattern in mind, pulled fabric I love and got to work.
I love the instant gratification of a baby quilt.

This morning after swim lessons and summer school I got this sweet quilt basted and quilted.
During karate I left the dojo to run to Hobby Lobby for binding fabric.
Hopefully I will get it attached and closed sometime this week.

Some fun arrived in my mailbox this morning!
Three Terrain charm packs I scored on the destash hashtag last week.
I am so excited to add to my list of Kate Spain quilts!
Someday.

The monster and I had such a busy week, I didn't get much time to sew.
I did squeeze in time for sewing night though.
My friend Kristen is moving away in a few days and it was our last sewing night.
We had cupcakes.
It will be a big change in my life here.
Kristen has always been up for sewing night and shopping trips.
I will seriously miss that.

I did get my Boathouse chain piecing done.

I need to press these HSTs.

I recently went to my LQS and found this pretty fun panel.
I had been keeping my eye out for a map of the states.

Today I have nothing planned and my house is clean enough that I can take time to sew.
I think I will make it a priority to get my Farmgirl blocks made today.

I've Been

Since I finished my rainbow quilt I have been doing lots.

I've been...

..buying stuff.

...stitching this.

...plotting this.

....chain piecing these.

... stopping to smell these.

...watching these.

....cleaning this.

I should be sewing my farm girl blocks!
I'll surface again soon.

My New Summer Nap Quilt

I just finished up the binding on my rainbow quilt.
I cannot tell you how happy I am.

The backing was something I found at HoLo and I love it.
The binding came from my stash.

Sometimes simple patchwork and simple quilting are a nice change.
This is a good example of that.
I think I will be using this for naps this summer.
I can hardly wait!

Came Close to Relapse

Yesterday I realized I was getting close to relapsing on my WIP habit.
After finishing the rainbow quilt I was talking to the hubs who told me it would be okay for me to wait to baste these quilts until he returns.
I was tempted.
Actually I resolved to just make quilt tops and put them away until the fall.
Then I realized it would end in disaster.
Even having two quilts waiting to be finished started feeling bad when I thought about it.
Shoot while the rainbow quilt backing was in the wash I started cutting something!

I don't want to end up with a dozen wips again.
What a slippery slope!
So this morning after breakfast I mopped.
And spent ALL MORNING basting.
(but I have an awesome audiobook I'm listening to right now, so it wasn't boring)

I unhappily realized the backing for my Horizons quilt was barely big enough.
Nothing like squeezing by with a tiny bit of excess.
This quilt I will be hand quilting.

The rainbow quilt I will be machine quilting.

As for the Boathouse fabric I started cutting yesterday...
It will be there waiting for me to finish the rainbow.
What great motivation!

On a Gloomy Day

I have my rainbow top finished.
I love it a lot.
I had a terrible time trying to take photos outside because it was quite breezy.
After several bad words I took it inside.
I am going to try to find a backing soon.
Maybe I will finally mop and baste this AND my horizon.

Halfway

I just keep stealing moments to sew a row here and there.

My pile is getting much much smaller!

Miss Kate

Today at karate I finished the binding on this beautiful quilt.

I am so happy this thing is DONE.
I love that I tried something new.
I am proud of myself.

I know my stitches aren't perfect.
I have a lot to learn and I need a lot of practice, but I love this quilt anyways!

I don't often admit when I am proud of myself.
But I would shout it from the rooftops in this case because I am!

This is only my fourth finished quilt of the year.
I am loving my pace!
