Lei Me All Wacky

I know the name is suggestive. The Hubs came up with it. I told him the blocks were wacky and the fabrics reminded me of leis. This is the first time he has come up with a name for one of my quilts. I don't know if he would publicly admit it, but I can tell he is happy I chose his idea.

I used a plain yellow sheet for the backing. Mainly because the fabrics on the front would have baffled me to find a print for the backing. AND it was 9.99 at Target! Plus since it was technically a sheet and not 'quilt fabric' it wasn't against my fabric fast to buy it?! (If it was you, you'd rationalize it that way too)
And can we pause for a moment and notice that I free motion quilted it. Its not a dog quilt or a wall hanging. Its a throw, the largest thing I have stippled so far! I'm working my way up. And I don't think its garbage, so HURRAY!!

Eeeek

I am so happy about this..... More to come soon!

This is something I pulled out today. Its an old project I cut out last spring or summer, but never started piecing. I have a fire under my rear to finish is soon, so I'm going with it. This block is crazy busy, but in the big picture in my head, it will be balanced out. We'll see.

Trail Dust, Arabians, and a fabric fast slip-up

I just got back from a mini trip out west. I drove to Tucson to visit my cousin KT. We spent Wednesday enjoying a touristy Trail Dust Town. It was very cute and we had fun walking around.

Then we drove out to the ranch KT is working on. She showed me the studs, and the mares and all of the babies.... they breed Arabians there. There were lots of babies!
KT took me to a store called Quilters market. It was fabulous! Lots of yummy fabrics. I wanted to look for fabrics for a wall hanging I saw in a magazine. I bought these. *gulp* I know it was bad of me to slip up, but when is the next time I will be there? Its 9 hours away for Pete sake!
Ugg I love these!

I only bought what I needed, except these 5 fatties. So.... hurray for my self restraint!

I could pee my pants!

This top makes me giddy! I mean like super-duper over the top giddy. The photo doesn't do it justice! I had these fabric floating around aimlessly, then when we did the crazy nine patch block for ORBC round 4 I started imagining which fabrics I could use to make a quilt of just crazy nine patch blocks. I pondered this for a bit, then dove in last night assembling these blocks. HELLO I love them!
The white fabric is leftover from my pinwheels, and the fabrics for the blocks were in my stash. I will have to wait to buy backing fabrics, so this top will have to wait a bit. But I am happy to have such and exciting project going. If you were wondering about the name of it, my husband came up with it. Its suggestive but funny I thought!

Finished Pinwheels

I pulled this baby out of the dryer this morning. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I had to really piece the backing to make the fabrics I had work. I really like the way it turned out though.
I love this red fabric. I bought it at that mac daddy fabric store in Lubbock.
The binding is pieced but I think it looks nice.

Aprons

I zipped together this apron for my cousin KT. I am going to visit her next week and wanted to take her something. Yesterday I was chatting to her while she was cooking and I thought *Ding* I've been on an apron kick lately, this will be perfect! If your staring at the apron strings asking, 'are those skulls and crossbones?' YES they are. I'm on a fabric fast here people! I'm getting desperate.
The applique cake stand is for my mom's birthday gift. I will finish it up soon I think, and I can show you more!!

A Mini Makes Me Happy

I just pulled this mini quilt out of the dryer! It is for our dog Anna who loves cuddling up with a quilt, so I made her one around Christmas time with seasonal fabrics. I have been getting tired of seeing her Christmas quilt so I decided to make her a new one.
I used a packet of squares that came with the scraps my aunt gave me. I added a border, and used a hunk of corduroy I had in the bought it long ago for no reason tub. The stippling was fun and I love how it turned out.

Easter Quilt

Since I decided to have a seasonal wall hanging quilt in my living room the ideas have been overwhelming me! And luckily my ideas have been pretty easy to turn into real life. As soon as my Luck of the Irish Chain was finished I had this idea pop into my head! And I really like the way it turned out.

I did free motion quilting on this one and I really like the way it turned out. When I pulled it out of the dryer my husband jumped up and couldn't wait to pet it! I am getting to him...hehe.

The backing is something I had in my tub of stuff I bought a long time ago with no purpose, so it worked out well. Although my husband asked if I broke a rule by using the backing fabric for the borders as well, and I probably did but I am on a fabric fast here people! What choice did I have?! I love it!
Don't forget to comment on my last post for a chance to win the giveaway!

Pinwheels and 100th post giveaway

I think I have 3 frequent readers. And so as a 'thank you' for stopping in I am going to offer up this handmade apron. Leave a comment and I will draw a winner on Tuesday! I have really enjoyed blogging for the past 100 posts. I started because my quilter sister in law had a baby and I had no one to email when I finished something new or bought more fabric. So I started a blog, if anything just to keep track of my projects and so I would have something to look back on. So thanks for reading if you do :)

I fixed my pinwheel quilt top last night. I think it looks way better, and that makes me happy! I have 3 yards of a nice red fabric I was hoping to use for the backing, and its about 1/2 yard short now, so I will have to think of an interesting way to piece the backing. Or I can wait until my fabric fast is over and buy something then.
And excuse me as I toot my stash raiding horn. The apron and a whole bunch of other projects are really busting my tubs of stash up! Wahoo!!

Pinwheels

I have my top together! I love these pinwheels. In the photo the darks stand out so much but in real life I like the layout. I am unable to do random. I laid the blocks out several times before I was happy with it, then when I looked at the photo I was thinking CRAP! But I'm not going to doubt myself. I was thinking of adding a red border, but I think instead I will use the fabric I have as a backing, if I have enough. Since I am on a fabric fast for a bit longer, it would be nice if I could pull it together with what I have instead of waiting.
Looking at this photo makes me think I would like it a lot better if the left side had another column of darks. Hmmm I might have enough leftovers to pull that out! I'll look into it tomorrow.

My Flock of Chicks!

These fun fowl are addictive to make! I think I am going to work the ladies into a line add some sort of border and call it a table runner. I don't think these will be my last chickens. AND I have some more ideas for these red and teal fabrics which have my mind spinning all of the time with giddiness!

A Hip Hen

I am so excited about this chicken block pattern. I am going to use the red and teal leftovers from my pinwheel quilt to make a chicken something or another for my mother in law's birthday gift. I haven't decided if I should do a table runner or a wall hanging. I'll figure it out. Please pardon the disappearing ink on the comb as I was too excited to wait for it to disappear to snap a photo.

Round 5

I am washing up my fabrics for ORBC Round 5! We are doing big pinwheels this time. I bought these fabrics last summer when I was visiting Imlay City and stopped into The Pincushion. I am going to use lots of white to make the red and aqua stand out!

This is the monster cheesing it up asking for a jelly bean. Who could say no eh??
