She was rusty, the scissors were not!

The Hubs turned 29 earlier this month.  He was my mother in law's baby.  So the last time she had to worry about leaving things in the reach of a 3 year old would have been 26 years ago.  So its devastating, but understandable that a pair of scissors were accidentally left in the living room where the monster was playing quietly....too quietly.

You know the type of quiet that is wrong.  Unfortunate for my mother in law's Bliss quilt top, which she has been stressing about for nearly a year.  The quilt she was going to make perfect.  Punishment and apologies were dealt out.
It was fixable.  She had enough fabric.  The look of disgust on her face right here would be due to her seam ripping the wrong border side off....Raise your hand if you have done that before!!  Who hasn't?!!  It will be okay.  And scissor safety will probably be a priority....
my next quilt

Like I need another project.  I wouldn't have fessed up to this if I hadn't needed to blog the bliss tragedy.     I love tumblers though! I can't help myself!

busting my butt

I have been working like crazy to get this quilt ready for binding.  Monday morning it was still stacks of fabric, and this morning I slapped on the final border.  I really want to get it quilted and put the binding on so I can take this to the Summit to hand close during the open sewing time.
The backing is in the dryer and I hope to baste during naptime.
I CAN DO THIS!

Quilt Magnet

Why is the monster so attracted to a new quilt I'm trying to get a good photo of?  Every time I tell ya!!

This afternoon after I got the inner border on I was taking a photo and the monster was already using it as a roadway for Lightening McQueen and McMissle.....

Then after I got the outer border on I took a photo, and again he had a truck driving across it!  Jeesh!!

But I LOVE this quilt top!  I loved it with that white inner border, and then I added the red outer border and I nearly started squealing!  It makes such a difference and I LOVE the way it turned out!  And I'm using a flannel backing, which will be awesome!!  Perhaps it will be basted on Friday night.... perhaps...

2 much 2 do

Remember this commercial???
This is how I feel, but with my quilt projects.  I've got a to do list up to my eyeballs.  I can barely get anything done, I have so many I'm trying to chip away at.  And they are just piled up, and I wanna say,"somebody help me".  Or somebody lite a few of them on fire.. cause that may be the only way these things get off the pile.

new nephew project
I mean September is nearly over, and I haven't even started my Christmas quilts yet.
I might need a quilt all night-er...or two!
HELP!!

The Road

Mitchell, South Dakota

We hauled ourselves to the east side of the state this week to visit it Laura Ingalls Wilder stuff in De Smet, South Dakota.  It was great fun, and we found a few quilt shops along the way too!
Lake Preston, South Dakota

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

It was chilly and rainy today so we got out our bliss charm packs and started on our Road to Tennessee quilts.  I didn't know that was it's name, but my mother in law saw it somewhere and it was called the Road to Tennessee.

So we worked, and thankfully the monster took a nice long nap today.
And my MIL finally had to use her Bliss, which she has been hoarding for a long while.
You know I love me some chain piecing!

My MIL's sewing station seems to be working.

We aren't done piecing the blocks...soon.

Quilts in the Hills

We headed to the hills today to the Hill City Quilt Show.  We went to the garden show that was at The Quilt Corral and Mistletoe Ranch.  It was a really nice display!  LOADS to see and it was in the woods and was very nice.

The monster enjoyed the bribery sucker he was awarded after we got to the car.

 It was nice and breezy!

A very nice day in the hills!

speaking of..

Speaking of my mother in law coming to visit, I cleaned up my fabric stash....Because when your mother in law comes over, you clean up!!

It makes me happy!  I think it looks like 80 times better!!

The shelf in the monster's closet is next.  I've been meaning to straighten it up since we moved in, but sometimes your MIL visiting is just the right motivation.

Sewing with Others

My sister in law drove up from Denver with her kidlet this past weekend.  She brought her sewing machine, and her barn raising.  It was fun to sit around sewing after the monsters were asleep.  Although I might be too old to stay up past midnight without the hubs here to cover the early morning monster for me.  Haha....I sure do miss him!!

She was able to get her top and backing assembled.  I expect she will have a finished quilt within the next couple of weeks.

During the evening sewing I started my Christmas placemats, I am only making 2 sets this year!  And I got a set of 6 put together, I just need to quilt them.  I do have another stack of fabric that I bought to make placemats for my table, and I got started on my Halloween set.

After Rebecca's departure I started thinking about my next sewing visitor.  The Hubs' mom is coming to visit for over a month, to help me out with the monster, and watch him while I go to the Sewing Summit, and to take care of us when I have my boob job.(the medically necessary kind, not the cosmetic kind)

But she is going to bring her most beloved fabric, Bliss, and I am going to force encourage her to cut into it and  make something with it!!  She will be on the baby Juki, and I wanted to make it easy to sew and eat meals, so I pulled out the temporary sewing table I use when we move, and have it set up for her.  She will arrive this weekend.  I kind of feel like its 'in the corner' but atleast we wont have to clean up anything from the table to consume meals.
I even have a guest sewing box put together.(because I have control/approval issues)  It makes the crazy part of my brain super geeked that I happen to own a couple extra rotary cutters, and one of them is in fact the type she uses at him.  Like that should make her quilting stay much more comfortable.  LOL  I need therapy.
