Took me long enough

Nearly a year ago I cut this quilt out. I finally got the top sewn together today, I was so tired of having this one on my to do list. I changed the layout a bunch of times, but I am really happy with the end result. Its a bit busy, but for a little girl I think it will be fine.
Basting tomorrow maybe, then hopefully it will be completely off my list!

Finally Finished Funky Fowl

Tonight I finished up these funky fowl. It took me an hour, which makes me kick myself for not just doing it weeks ago. Oh well. I like the table runner alot. I ended up quilting the top with a piece of batting, then I trimmed it up and attached it inside out to the backing. So then turned right-side out I ran a seam along the edge to close the opening. I like how finished it looks, I think a binding would have just been a bit bulky.
Each chick is quilted differently. The reds are free motioned in one way or another....
And the teals are straight line stitched. These hens make me super happy. I hope the recipient will enjoy them too. Her birthday is mid-May so I am not late on this one!! Wahoo!

Checkers!

I finished up my niece's birthday gift today! Her birthday is tomorrow, so it will be a little late. If I get it in the mail tomorrow I'm thinking only a couple days though!

I made a quilt for the checkerboard.

The checkers were just circles I quilted and then zig-zagged the edges.
The backing fabric is my favorite find as of lately. ADORABLE!
And I made a messenger bag to keep the board and checkers in. I used a Velcro enclosure and appliqued her name on one side, and 'checkers' on the other. All in all I am very happy with the set. I think I will make more of these.

sneaks

Okay here is a peek at the most exciting thing going on in our house. PACKING! We leave on Saturday! I bought a book by judging the cover... it has seashells on it.
I am falling more and more in love with these Hexagons! These are from the 5 sets we were assigned to cut out in the first week of instruction. I cannot wait for whatever comes next.
This is a really rough sneak peek. I laid out these quilt blocks today to see what I thought. I am thinking I like it, but I might add a white sashing to calm it down a bit.

Step Two I Suppose

So, I've been busy since I admitted my problem. HeHe. I tackled my scraps and feel much better.

This basket was overflowing, but I didn't take a photo because, well, it felt shameful. I sorted it first and this was my result. It encouraged me to stick it to the big basket. Lots of big hunks were in there!
After I pulled out the big hunks, this is what was left. All these little things that needed to be sorted! I DID IT! I put them in my color sorted boxes. I was pretty proud of myself!
I've been working on a checkerboard for my niece's birthday. I think I may finish it tomorrow!!

In Shambles

Well first off, I love that jaybird quilts posted the cutting instructions for the hexagon along a day early!!! I jumped on that right away of course because I discovered the instructions moments before naptime, so it was very ideal! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this.... I don't know what will happen next but I am enjoying cutting the triangles out and setting them together to gaze at them lovingly. I LOVE THEM!

Alright on to the shambles I discovered right in my very own sewing room! Its getting really serious in there. I realized the magnitude of the problem today. It's never been this bad before....
I mean my sewing table is almost completely overrun with scraps and stuff......
There is fabric everywhere. Some scraps, and some entire projects waiting... slowly becoming buried.... And yes there is un-photographed mess in the reflection of the mirror... its bad I know!!
and the real problem is that I need to go through this!!! Yeah its a problem.
The first step is admitting you have a problem right...... now what???

Getting ready!!

Do you remember a while back when I mentioned that we reserved a villa on the beach????
We leave in a week! We got a room with a kitchen so we can save money by eating meals in our room. We are planning to eat breakfast and most lunches in. Imagine! So I have bought most of what we will need here, I am guessing it would be more expensive there. We will have to grab milk and stuff but that's okay! Imagine one lunch out would have been nearly the cost off all of these breakfast and lunch foods.
I've started pulling out beach toys and found the water wings! We talk about it everyday.
The hubbs is working 12 hour days until we leave, so I don't know how much quilting I will get done in the next week. I will be cleaning the house and packing I bet. I just want to play in the sand with the monster and enjoy the ocean!

Its almost popsicle season!!

I've planned to make a popsicle quilt to use as my wall hanging quilt for June. Last night I had to start these sweet treats. This is my first block. It measures 12.75 x12.75 I think I am going to make 4 more. Maybe I'll make 16 more and make a throw for the sofa. Maybe......
The block I got the idea from was much smaller and foundation pieced so I made up my own. Here are the measurements for this block.
**The Pop ** 5.5 x 8
** the stick** 1.5 x 3.5
**White Popsicle corners** 1.5 inch squares you need 2 -attach like you would a snowball block
**White pieces to the left & right of stick** 2.5 x 3.5 you need 2
**White pieces above & below Popsicle** 1.5 x 5.5 you need 2
**White pieces to left & right of Popsicle** 4 x 12.75 you need 2

Moda...at my door

You know I love Fat Quarter Shop! Fabric fast finished and all, I ordered some MODA for the Hexagon Along. It arrived today. After a small display of jumping around the living room with the box clutched to my chest, I opened my Butterfly Garden loot!
This quilt will be a gift for someone, and the fabrics will suit their family room really well. I'm thinking just a large throw. The beige is the backing and the green is for the binding.
AND AND AND in the box along with my order was.........
A freebie!! Hello?! Can this be the best day ever? (I mean aside from my wedding day and the day my son was born... of course.. ahem.) Yes, so I am very happy and I didn't tinkle myself, although I wouldn't have blamed myself. It was a giddy fun thing!

My First Try

So I was told I should try to make a full length apron.... Here is my first attempt! I am overall happy with it. Its reversible. I'm not sure which side I like best.
I don't know if there is anything cuter than my husband wearing his uniform but still modeling the apron for me. I love that guy!! I think the apron looks funny on him since he is a foot taller than me!

Apron #1

You know that stack of new fabrics has been on my mind all day. I had to start on one. I'm in love with it.

This pink fabric makes me extra happy!

This one is a store bought apron that I added the applique cake stand and the fabric along the bottom to dress it up a little. Its for my mom. She bakes lots and lots of cakes and uses a crappy Christmas apron I gave her a few years ago. Her birthday is coming up. This should hold up to her cake baking much better.

Spring Flowers

This is the next wall hanging. I started it the other night and finished it a couple hours ago. I love it.
This is for Easter dessert. Its 426 calories per slice... eeek

The monster stuffed his face with peeps. Haha

Its like junk food

You know when you don't buy junk food for a long time, then you decide to buy a bag of chips and you eat them ALL in one day?! Buying fabric today was kind of like that. Fasting for 40 days left me busting out on my first day back with 13 yards! I needed 2 yards of sashing for a project, and I found 4 yards for a backing I needed....Then I was thinking ...

I thought this was cute for an Easter apron.....

And I thought this fabric would be cute for an apron...

and I thought this would make a cute apron....

And these too....

And these would make a snazzy apron....

So I decided make myself six aprons...just because I wanted to buy loads of fabrics after my fast. I picked up these cute ribbons to dress them up!
Shrieking!!!!!!
