WIP Wednesday

I finally(!!!!!!) used the leftovers from the Old Red Barn Co Quilt Along for this stacked coin quilt. Took me long enough. Today I was feeling super motivated, but waited until after dinner to get to work. I was able to get this top together. The backing fabric I have for this quilt makes me giddy. I have three quilts that need to be sandwiched, Friday night will be the night.

Paisley Path is on its way to the long arm. It should arrive tomorrow, and the quilter has a two week turn around. eeeeeee

It Turned Out Gigantic!

Finally I got this mammoth top finished!!! It measures 88x102. You can see how large it is on my queen sized bed. I am not going to quilt it myself. I don't even have anywhere large enough to baste the darn thing! I'm nervous about sending it out, but I'm sure I will love the fun design a long arm can pull off.

My sister has a tall double bed, so she should have tons of overhang. See how closely it measures to the king sized coverlet on my bed? I hope she is going to like it. Someday when she is married I would assume she will have a queen and she should still have some great overhang with this quilt.




The only place I had to lay it out for a pic is the yard!!

I found this cute block pattern and think my Gobble Gobble Layer Cake might be destine to make a quilt with this block. I am pretty excited. Here is the tester block I made with some scraps.

WIP Wednesday

I finally dusted off my ol sampler book and got to work! I got Hobson's Kiss sewn together, and Steps to the Alter partially pieced. I think I have 12 to do to catch up! I better get a move on. If I can get one done a day it shouldn't take long.

I finally got it!

I have been meaning to get a good picture of my 1930's nine patch for years!! It lives at my mom's house and I always forget, but finally I remembered(of course it took me 2 months to post it here, but oh well). And I got a good photo of the backing which was a birthday present from my cousin way back when I was still in high school.

Its a Biggie

I was able to get the 30 blocks assembled today. This week I will be working on the sashing and assembling the top. I laid out the 30 blocks tonight just to see! Its really big. The largest I have ever made. I am naming it Paisley Path.

My First Glimps

I have been working this week on the blocks for my sister J's quilt. This block has 16 pieces! I am used to patterns with a little more instant gratification. But I got a large dose this evening when I laid out the first 9 blocks! I was so worried about how the fabrics I got would look together, but I am very pleased with it! This quilt is going to be big, 30 blocks and a 4 inch border! I hope I can get the rest of the blocks together tomorrow. I bet I can because the other 21 are in 3 big sections that just need to be zipped together. Piece of cake! Now I just need to think of a name.....

My first wonky

Bulls-eye

This bulls-eye top was a piece of cake to put together. I like the way it turned out. Its simple but its interesting. I think once its quilted it will really be a nice quilt. I still need to decide what color thread to use. I cant decide if white, grey or black would look better. hmmmmmm.... And a name, I need to think of a name......

Wonky and Not Wonky Log Cabin Quilts

I really wasn't going to take part in the third quilt along. But once Quilt Dad posted the cutting directions I decided to go ahead and play. Darn my lack of self control. This round is a wonky log cabin. I am a bit giddy about it, especially since I had enough fat quarters in my stash! I think I might want to add white sashing but that's something I'll figure out later on.

I got my strips cut during nap time this morning. I had some nice pinks yellows ad oranges, and I am using two greens. I think it will be cute. I probably should plan on giving it away to a niece or something... but what if I decide to keep it? So instead of coming of as greedy at the end, I am going to plan on keeping it and if at the end I decide I can part with it then great.

And I think I have finally decided what to do with the red and teal fabrics. I am going to use the pattern in the Fall 2009 Fons & Porter's Easy Quilts Its the log cabin that's on the cover. I have gone back and forth but I am sticking to this plan now. I think I need to get another red to use for the sashing though. that's pretty good I think considering I bought this fabric with no real plan for it.


I am going to try to cut out the bulls-eye quilt during afternoon naptime. It shouldn't be too tough. I am very motivated today. GO ME

I found this really cute poem that I'm going to include with baby quilts from now on. I always want to include a note telling the parents to let the kid use the quilt, but I couldn't find the right words. This poem is perfect!

This quilt is made of cloth and thread

to place upon your little bed.

Yuletide Cozy

I just finished this wonderful Christmas quilt. It has become my favorite! I love the backing!

This one is going to live with us and I'm guessing it will be on the back of the sofa the day after Thanksgiving and may hang out there until Valentines.

Considering this quilt started as something fun to do on the side with a few charm packs, it has turned into a seriously enjoyable project and a beaut if I do say so myself.

Two more exciting piles of fabric

I have two new projects on my growing list. While I was home we picked names for Christmas on my side. I have 5 siblings, two real and three step, and since everyone has a significant other it is too much to buy for everyone so this year we picked names. We got my younger sister, and one of my step- sisters. I am going to make them both quilts. Neither have the same taste as me, so I am branching out of my color and print comfort zone to make them something I think suits them.

For my sister J I am going to use the pattern in Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting Easy Quilts Fall 2009 issue. it’s the Venetian Dream pattern on page 50. I’m going to make it a queen size though. I like that this magazine shares the changes for different bad sizes.

For my step-sister T I am going to make a simple throw. I happened upon this wall hanging and was inspired to just make it bigger! So I am starting with a 15 inch square, adding a 15 inch border, then a second 15 inch border to make it a nice throw size 72 inches square. I think I might do a squared spiral, quilted kind of close to make it look really interesting.
I am glad I have the fabric bought, and washed. That makes me feel more relaxed. I want to have them both finished before November. But I have a long list of projects so I might put these two ahead of the rest.
